A Change in Focus

Things have been difficult for Harmony Methodist Church this year.

On March 24th, we lost our beloved leader, Linda Haynes. It was Linda who brought us together for a bible study two years ago that turned into Harmony Methodist Church. Unfortunately, Linda’s diagnosis and entry into hospice care almost immediately after our reception into the Global Methodist Church left us floundering for direction and leadership. With no one experienced in evangelism or church planting to lead the helm, and separated by thousands of miles from GMC leadership, we struggled to discern how to share our message with our community and focused inward. Five remaining founding members shared the duties of preaching and planning worship during that time; a daunting task for each of us, but one that provided each of us the opportunity to grow immensely in our own faith and understanding as we spent our time in preparation and study of scripture. Linda participated with us for as long as she was able and prayed over the growth of our community until the last.

Last month, two more founding members relocated out of state to be closer to family in the face of another difficult medical diagnosis. This was a necessary move, but left those of us who remained with the difficult decision of how to proceed. With so few remaining hands to share the work, we shifted our focus to implementing a regular prayer meeting for our local community in conjunction with our weekly bible study. We hope that we will be able to share our faith and encourage scriptural holiness among ourselves and our community, and that in doing so we will rebuild a covenant body that is equipped to host weekly worship again.

Bible Study continues to be held at 10:30am on Wednesdays at the Café at Game Theory, 500 E Swanson Ave, Suite 2 in Wasilla. Starting in September, we intend to hold a 30 minute prayer service starting at 10am, in which we will pray together for the concerns of our community and over any specific requests that are brought up. We invite you to join us and ask for your prayers for continued discernment and growth as we find our path as a church. May the blessings and peace of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit go with you!
